The Upper Hutt Toy Library is a non-profit community organisation, established in May 1991, with the aim of providing a wide range of educational toys, games and puzzles designed to aid the mental, physical and social development of children.
The current annual subscription is $60 for General or $40 for Community Service Card Holder membership. We offer a 6 month membership for $40 and a 5 trip membership for $32 (this is valid for 1 year). The Toy Library is managed by a Committee consisting of volunteer members and one paid Librarian who has the responsibility of running each Toy Library session. The services that our Librarian provides are important to the smooth running of the Toy Library and provide a stable public face to our organisation. She is able to aid parents with choosing toys that are suitable to the child's age and developmental stage and is familiar with all the items stocked by the Toy Library.
The majority of our items are purchased via funding grants from various sources as well as fundraising, although we do occasionally have items donated to us (usually second-hand). The stock available for rental is in excess of 650 items, ranging from basic 3 piece jigsaws to ride-on Roller Coasters. Toy rentals range from 50c. to $6.00 per item.
We are open Tuesdays, 10am 12noon, Thursdays 12noon 2pm, Saturdays, 10am 2pm
