I have been teaching for 40 years having been a pupil of several well known teachers including Dame Sister Mary Leo. I have been an itinerant teacher in schools but now only have private students in my home. I have performed in operas and Music Theatre shows, having lead roles many times. I am very familiar with theatre.
I was employed by the Eastern Institute of Technology (EIT) for seven years teaching singing in the Performance Drama and Vocal School.
I specialise in Voice lessons for speech and singing. I teach speech helping people to articulate properly and use resonance and energy for public speaking. I use up to date pedagogy with constant professional development through The Institute of Registered Music Teachers, N.Z. Teachers of Singing (NEWZATS) and the NZ Singing School where approximately 15 singing teachers in varying genres come from all over the world and teach up to 80 students from the age of 16. I am up to date with all styles from opera, classical (German, Italian and French) to Music Theatre and microphone technique. Cross over - the skills required to sing classical and contemporary without sounding like an opera singer - being the main focus of my work. I am happy to work for exams or just for pleasure. All ages from 12 upwards. I focus on the technique of singing and enjoyable performing.
I have had many successes with exams both with the Grades 3 - 8 and then the Diplomas of ATCL, LTCL. I prefer the Trinity College set of exams for singers. I have had many successes with Competitions and the HB Registered Music Teachers Young Musician of the Year Competition each September.
I love working with people and we have fun as well as working to achieve improvement. I have a lovely warm room with a keyboard so that I can transpose any song to fit the vocal range, especially for boys. My keyboard also connects to my computer so that we can record accompaniments and down load on to CDs or memory sticks for students to take home to practice.
